Prentiss Walker Lake

Prentiss Walker Lake is a 81-acre lake 4 miles southwest of Mize off Hwy 35 in Smith County. The lake was constructed in 1962 and was originally named Lake Ross Barnett. The lake was closed for repairs in 1994 and reopened in 1997. Prentiss Walker is known for very large Bluegill and Redear sunfish.

BassBass fishing has been slow. Try targeting bass near woody cover and along shorelines with buzzbaits, poppers, and lipless crankbaits.
Crappie Crappie fishing has been slow. Try targeting crappie in depths of 5-10 feet with minnows are small hair jigs.
BreamBream fishing has been good with anglers having success in catching numbers. Try targeting bream with red worms or crickets under a cork near laydowns and brushpiles.
Catfish Catfishing is poor. Try tightlining garlic-soaked chicken or livers in deep water.

Lake Regulations

  • Pole or rod and reel fishing only. No trot lines, limb lines, set hooks, jugs or yo- yo’s are allowed.
  • Carp, gar, buffalo, Freshwater Drum, shad, and Bowfin may be taken by use of Bow and Arrow, Crossbow, Spear, or Gig.

Record Fish

Record fish must be weighed and verified by the lake manager, lake supervisor, or fisheries biologist. Anglers who catch a lake record fish will receive a certificate acknowledging their catch.
