Lake Claude Bennett

Lake Claude Bennett is a 71-acre lake located in Jasper County, 20 miles east of Bay Springs off Hwy 18 near Rose Hill. The lake was opened in 1961, and named for a former president of the University of Southern Mississippi who lived in Jasper County.

Fishing Report - Updated 5/1/24

BassBass fishing has been good. Try fishing along the edges on various artificial baits such as lizards in junebug, green pumpkin, or black/blue.
Crappie Crappie fishing has been fair. Try crappie fishing along the dropoffs and throughout the deep water with minnows or jigs.
BreamBream fishing good. Try targeting bream at depths of 2 - 10 ft around brush piles or creek channels with crickets or red worms.
Catfish Catfishing has been slow. Anglers should be targeting catfish at depths of 8 - 15 ft along creek ledges and deep structure. Chicken liver or worms should be good choices for bait.

Lake Regulations

  • Pole or rod and reel fishing only. No trot lines, limb lines, set hooks, jugs, or yo- yo’s are allowed. 
  • Carp, gar, buffalo and Bowfin may be taken by use of bow and arrow at night.

Four different groups of artificial structures along with natural habitat were added on 1/24/17. There were 20 artificial grass structures and three 5x5x5 artificial box structures placed at each site. The coordinates for these are listed below.

Amenities

Campgrounds are first come first serve, please call the State Lake office for information.

  • 31 camping pads with electrical/water hookups. 
  • A pavilion with restrooms is available for rent.

Record Fish

Record fish must be weighed and verified by the lake manager, lake supervisor, or fisheries biologist. Anglers who catch a lake record fish will receive a certificate acknowledging their catch.
